Hot Days and Bountiful Garden

One would think I would have time to catch up with this blog since I can't work outside in the hot afternoons, but it turns out there is much to do indoors (like water the greenhouse and indoor plants... over and over..., read books... Malcolm Gladwell's excellent Blink, The Tipping Point, and now What the Dog Saw...and nap.)  Outdoor watering happens every morning between morning animal chores. All I can manage is a few photos now and then... mostly of the garden which is out of control...

These yellow beans are delicious!

When it's not too hot, I mow and pull tansy ragwort. Once I heard a Wrentit calling so took my camera later and got a photo of a hedge nettle. No Wrentit in view.

On the 13th of August, I did my beached bird survey for COASST. I found 2 dead birds to measure and identify... and photograph... but they are anything but scenic. Instead I'll post photos of drift wood scenes. I love drift wood.

Tiny figures to the right between ocean and sand are six horseback riders. There are always horseback riders on the beach.

That evening Paul  Sullivan came over to try to call out the elusive Wrentit so I could get a photo. He did but I didn't. However I did get a photo of a Warbling Vireo he called out. The story and another photo are on my Birds blog here:https://lindafink-birdnotes.blogspot.com/2020/08/the-wrentit-hunt.html

Johnny, meanwhile, works outside in the heat every day, splitting wood for our 90 year old neighbor, building things here, fixing things... he does not mind 90 degree days. I do.

Today I made ice cream.
